Monday Lecture Series

Each Monday The Florida Carriage Museum offers a free 2 hour lecture on the horse, carriages, and their place in history. The lectures are themed and the theme changes from month to month.

Gloria Austin, renowned horse-woman and lecturer, will introduce most of the lectures and participants will also get to meet other experts in the equine industry.

Monday, September 6, 2010- No Lecture- Enjoy your Labor Day!

Monday, September 13, 2010- 10am-12 noon:  Bob Reardon: “Arabian Horse Forum”.  With a distinctive head shape and high tail carriage, the Arabian is one of the most easily recognizable horse breeds in the world.  It is one of the oldest horse breeds, with archaeological evidence of horses that resemble modern Arabians dating back 4,500 years.  Long-time Arabian enthusiast, Bob Reardon, shares his experiences with this beautiful breed.  Bob will end the lecture with an education DVD on the Arabian horse.

Monday, September 20, 2010- No lecture: Docent Monthly Meeting 

Monday, September 27, 2010- 10am-12 noon:  Sally Gummoe: “A Cowgirl’s Life”.  Residing here in Summerfield, Sally joins us and shares her experiences as a cowgirl, both on stage and off.  Sally tells stories of raising cattle and what it was like to run a cattle ranch.  She also shares her experiences riding trick horses and participating in various performances and shows.  Sally recently wrote an autobiography entitled Spirit of the Happy Trails of My Life, and will be discussing the book, as well as signing copies after the lecture.
